In an age flooded with images, there should be a convincing yet careful reason for choosing one. All the more so when the image is to become a painting.

I am drawn to images that deserve to be revisited, images that should be brought back up from beneath the surface. Events that seem to have passed with time, things forgotten, marginalized, or no longer granted attention.

When classical mythology is retold through a contemporary gaze and interpretation, it becomes more than a repetition of the past. It enters into a new relationship with the present. The same can be said of music, when fragments from different generations are brought together, interpreted, and composed into a new piece. What already existed acquires meanings that were not there before through its encounter with another time.

Then what happens when an event or image that once belonged to reality, but has gradually slipped out of view, is brought back to the surface, reinterpreted, and presented again in the present? How might the meaning produced through that act resonate with these other forms of retelling and recomposition?

This is the point that interests me: not simply adding another new image, but making us look again at an image that already existed and has since become invisible.
